Olympia's MultiCare Cancer Institute
The top comprehensive cancer care network in the region

MultiCare Cancer Institute: A New Era of Oncology Care in the Pacific Northwest
The Pacific Northwest is taking a monumental step forward in cancer care with the launch of the MultiCare Cancer Institute. Officially introduced in January 2025, this initiative is designed to provide high-value, tailored oncology services and cutting-edge cancer research to communities across the region, including Olympia.

A Unified Approach to Cancer Care
MultiCare Health System is building on its history of exceptional oncology services by forming the MultiCare Cancer Institute. The goal? To establish the most connected and comprehensive cancer care network in the region. The institute will focus on:
✅ Developing subspecialty disease programs and centers of excellence
✅ Enhancing cancer prevention and early detection efforts
✅ Expanding research opportunities and access to state-of-the-art treatments
Leading Experts & Strong Collaborations
At the helm of this transformative initiative is Dr. Margo Shoup, MD, MBA, a nationally recognized surgical oncologist with a strong track record of leading systemwide cancer institutes. Dr. Shoup is also the vice president of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the world’s largest group of cancer surgeons. Her leadership will guide the institute in pioneering advancements in personalized cancer treatment.
MultiCare Cancer Institute is also partnering with Northwest Medical Specialties, a physician-owned oncology practice in the Puget Sound area. These collaborations are critical to ensuring that patients can receive expert care close to home without needing to travel to larger cities like Seattle.
Expanding Access to Specialized Care
MultiCare Cancer Institute is actively building specialized teams focused on treating breast, lung, gastrointestinal, and prostate cancers, among others. The recruitment of leading experts in oncology will further strengthen the institute’s ability to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care at every stage of the cancer journey.

Locations Across the Pacific Northwest
MultiCare Cancer Institute is expanding across the region, with locations in: 📍 Olympia
📍 Yakima
📍 Puyallup
📍 Spokane
📍 Tacoma
📍 Auburn
📍 Gig Harbor
📍 Poulsbo
A Vision for the Future
Dr. Laila Rashidi, a colorectal surgeon and medical director for surgical oncology, emphasizes the importance of providing accessible, top-tier cancer care:
“Patients shouldn’t have to travel all the way to a big city like Seattle for care or access to the latest clinical trials. That’s where our collaborations across the Pacific Northwest come in — and we’re only just getting started.”
With an ambitious vision and a commitment to pioneering cancer treatment, MultiCare Cancer Institute is set to redefine oncology care for communities across Washington.
